Beijing Cake | Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Ok lets be generous a young enthusiastic group of American actors trying to mock US stereotypes of China/Chinese, and stereotypes about who black actors can play and missing not by a mile but by a continent or two and by a century and a half.

Did no one sit on the outside and have a real unbiased look?

What is more shocking is the fact that this is a group of American actors Across the pond such issues as YELLOW FACE are dealt with unlike over her in the UK where it is still swept under the carpet or excused

This is what some members of the audience had to say

black actors dressed in Chinese costume, putting on Chinese accents, and speaking a made up “Chinese” language. At the point we walked out, the yellow faced actor was wanting to buy a white woman’s baby.

We spoke to the producer and writer afterwards and were met with arrogance, ignorance and a complete inability to understand what they’d done wrong.

he playwright said she wanted people to ruminate on stereotypes. Admitted she made up a “Chinese” language so as not to offend anyone, was not aiming to point to Chinese people specifically. Um. The play is called Beijing Cake.
